Sustainability claims and resource-efficiency tools currently lack a trusted, verifiable evidence base, making it hard to tie them to standards, incentives or future compliance.
The innovation need
Solutions that help hospitality operators measure, reduce or certify resource use, waste, water, energy or emissions, within a controlled pilot. Directions include smart meters; water-use analytics; waste sorting and tracking tools; eco-certification dashboards; energy-efficiency monitoring; guest-behaviour nudges; automated ESG and sustainability reporting.
The learning question
Can resource-efficiency technologies and reporting tools be tested in hospitality settings to generate trusted evidence for sustainability standards, incentives or future compliance approaches?
Test boundaries and safeguards
A pilot in one or more defined tourism facilities, with baseline and post-intervention measurements. KPIs may include percentage reduction in water, energy or waste, data accuracy, operator compliance and user acceptance.
No public sustainability claims unless verified; privacy controls for guests and participants; safety requirements for any devices installed; environmental safeguards; and clear responsibility for facility operations staying with the facility.
What a good answer looks like
Baseline data for the facility or process you target; a partner facility’s commitment; a credible measurement methodology; your environmental safeguards; and a plan for data ownership and confidentiality.
